Day 3 of the ROUNDHOUSE ON THE ROAD Tour
Roswell:
I started the third day of this first road tour with an early morning radio interview at KCKN. We went to Martin's Capitol Café for a quick breakfast and then on to Pioneer Plaza for office hours in Roswell. Some people stopped by just to say hello, but many others raised serious concerns about veterans' affairs and local unemployment. Just before noon, we departed Roswell for Vaughn.
Vaughn:
In Vaughn I met with 20 people at the fire station. Many were concerned about closing of the weigh station, which results in a large loss of revenue to the town. They also have critical problems with their water distribution system that desperately need to be addressed.
One young man talked with me about wanting to find a better, higher paying job with medical benefits. It is a familiar story. So many New Mexicans would like to stay and work in their hometowns but it's not always easy to find a good job that will support a family. Spurring economic development throughout ALL of New Mexico is vital to make sure folks can continue to live and work in their own towns.
After a brief snack of ice cream and cake baked by the local senior center, we headed to Albuquerque.
Albuquerque:
We drove straight to the Isotopes Park and parked the bus along University Blvd., right in front of the stadium entrance. The Isotopes were playing the Sacramento Rivercats and a good size crowd was on hand for the game. Lots of people stopped by to say hello and to pick up general information about state government services and programs. Following office hours, I headed into the stadium to enjoy the game. 'Topes won in 10 innings! What a great way to finish off this first leg of the Roundhouse on the Road tour. I'm really looking forward to heading back out on the road to meet more people in their own communities. Next week we'll do it again as I head down to Lincoln, Otero, and Socorro Counties. Keep checking in for more updates from the road…
