Creating New Jobs and a Building a 21st Century Workforce

Diane Denish believes that New Mexico, with its abundance of natural resources and dedicated workforce, is uniquely positioned to be a national leader in the new economy.  But to get there, we must be more innovative than ever in helping New Mexico’s small businesses and thriving industries create the jobs of the future.

As a former small business owner, Diane knows what it means to make payroll and balance a budget. She understands that small businesses are the backbone of New Mexico’s economy – and we must do more to help them grow and create new jobs.  As Lieutenant Governor, Diane helped create an innovative micro-lending program through the New Mexico Small Business Investment Corporation that has helped over 1,800 small businesses get access to capital so they could grow.  As Governor, Diane has proposed a comprehensive plan to help New Mexico’s small business owners create new jobs, cut through the red tape and get access to capital.

As Governor, Diane will implement policies to ensure that our workers have the skills they need to take on 21st century jobs and to achieve financial security and prosperity.

A key element of these policies is to create more opportunities in the middle-skills area of education. That means programs focused on where there is high or increasing job demand; enticing high-school seniors and juniors to stay in school by making the final two years more focused on pathways to the workforce or college; and creating opportunities for mid-career people to add skills to increase their value to employers.
