Will GOP Candidates Follow Lt. Gov. Diane Denish’s Lead and Voluntarily File Year-End Fundraising Reports and Disclose Donors?

Albuquerque, N.M. – Lt. Gov. Denish’s campaign today called on the Republican candidates for Governor to disclose whether they will follow Denish’s lead and voluntarily file year-end finance reports and make public the names of the donors giving to their campaigns.  Lt. Gov. Denish files reports every three months – more often than New Mexico law requires – and her campaign will make public its voluntarily year-end report in the next few weeks.

“I believe openness and transparency are always important, whether they relate to official state business or during campaigns for public office,” Lt. Gov. Denish said. “The press and the public should be able to frequently review who is financing campaigns and how much they’re giving. The Republican candidates for Governor like talking about the importance of transparency, but now they have an opportunity to back up their talk with action.”

Several weeks ago, when a reporter asked the GOP candidates whether they would follow Lt. Gov. Denish’s lead and voluntarily file a report in January. None of the candidates responded.
